Recently Katy Perry has been rather outspoken about her strong dislike for Lady Gaga’s use of religious themes in her music video for Alejandro believing that it is blasphemous and exploitative. Speaking to several figures in the press, Perry is yet another insecure artist to be added to the long list of figures in the industry speaking out against GAGA. Perry recently spoke out on the issue of God and GAGA in the latest edition of Rolling Stone:
“I am sensitive to Russell [Brand, her fiance] taking the Lord’s name in vain and to Lady Gaga putting a rosary in her mouth. I think when you put sex and spirituality in the same bottle and shake it up, bad things happen.”
Ms. Perry, we think the gays are sensitive to you lampooning lesbianism and yet she sings the following lyrics:
I kissed a girl and I liked it, the taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it, I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrong, it felt so right, don’t mean I’m in love tonight
And Perry’s playful banter didn’t end there with the track Ur So Gay off your debut album One of The Boys which saw her “emasculate” a once significant other by equating him to gay stereotypes. We guess suppresed groups such as the LGBT community are up for debate and free for you to represent in which ever way you feel Katy, but when someone like GAGA who wants to use religious imagery tastefully in her video you, Katy, think it’s justified to ridicule her and go on an endless campaign to tell her that she is wrong not only for her use of the image but also dare we say for her position in defending the gay community.
Meanwhile your conveniently showing all but your nipples in countless photoshoots. Talk about blasphemy???
Katy, the public does not come to you for your political opinion…we come for a light pop tune with some occasional belting with a quirky twist… We could say so much more, but we’ll stop here…
