Many of you might ask: Why does Lindsay Blohan refer to Rihanna as Rihtard? Is Lindsay Blohan hating on Rihanna? Does Lindsay Blohan like any of Rihanna’s music? We have received unending questions and emails as to why we refer to Rihanna as Rihtard and we plan on providing you with a direct response here on the site.
With all the money and attention, the hype and the build-up from her third (what should be considered her first) album Good Girl Gone Bad, Rihanna should be dominating the music scene. With the success of her third album, her departure from her Caribbean/reggae Beyonce-esque image to a new edgier fashioned look the reasons are clear to us: In the case of Rihanna, image is everything. After transforming into the fashionista that she is today, the success of her singles and their connection to her look- Umbrella, Please Don’t Stop The Music, Disturbia, Take A Bow, Shut Up and Drive and the success garnered from them it should have been an indicator as to where she should go.
But as we feared after promotion for Good Girl Gone Bad wrapped her team got lost in the façade that she had been projecting. Rihanna’s team is undeniably the true artist informing Rihanna how to dress (her stylist), telling her what to say and sing (her label and producers)… They have given her the pathway and it’s her job to walk down that edgy road as seen in the plethora of images of her walking down sidewalks. We thought the public had spoken as Good Girl Gone Bad displayed huge interest in the artist from Barbados and her new look/sound. Everything she’s done (her albums A Girl Like Me and Music of the Sun) have paled in comparison.
So we waited and we just knew that Rihanna and her team would concoct a new album that would go along with her playful edgy/style/tough facade, but then something happened that literally knocked all sense out of Rihanna…something knocked that edgy image right out of her head. That something was her then boyfriend Chris Brown who was charged with assaulting Rih Rih. And so, we thought to ourselves from a business/PR standpoint: this will make Rihanna even huger! Undoubtedly when news broke that Rihanna had been badly beaten by her boyfriend Chris Brown the entire nation/pop music listening world was in her corner. We believe this built up the momentum and attraction for her next album.
So what did her team decide to do after the massive success of GGGB and the attention gained from her private/public misfortunes? Instead of extending her glamour/edgy/high fashion image she goes straight up faux-gangsta bad girl, taking her featured tracks with T.I., Jay-Z, and Kanye a little too close to heart. In recent interviews she says that this recent project, Rated-R, was in response to Chris and their volatile relationship. Well her team definitely dropped the ball once again because the image is clear of what the next era of Rihanna should have been.
Now instead and due to a series of unfortunate events, Rihanna has alienated her fans cursing on every track of her album and speaking a little too freely during press conferences. Giving us DEAD and depressing music, without being able to convey an ounce of soul through her vocals. All that build-up from the last album lead us here, the birth of Rihtard. She has never been that consistent if you think about her first two albums, her performances, and her image throughout the years but there was a glimmer of hope that she was on a new pathway towards domination but after the failure that is Rated-R she shined light on true colors and let us know that what she projected on GGGB is a manufactured product she nor her team is aware of.
Solely based off of one album her single “Hard” ironically declares in the midst of her massive mediocre performance on the charts that “that Rihanna reign just won’t let up”. But it is clear the facade is broken all within one album….that hardly would qualify as a reign don’t you think?
