Lena Horne, the first black performer to be signed to a major Hollywood studio under a long term contract has died in New York at New York Presbyterian Hospital Sunday night.

During the 1930s she rose to fame as the first black performer to sing and be accompanied by an all white band. It was during this time that she was also featured in numerous musicals.

Horne spoke of the early years and her acceptance into the industry:

“I was unique in that I was a kind of black that white people could accept. I was their daydream. I had the worst kind of acceptance because it was never for how great I was or what I contributed. It was because of the way I looked.”

Even after making it big as a well known black actress Horne continued to face racism stating in one interview:

“I was always battling the system to try to get to be with my people. Finally, I wouldn’t work for places that kept us out…it was a damn fight everywhere I was, every place I worked, in New York. In Hollywood, all over the world.”

Our thoughts and prayers our with Horne and her family. RIP!

Janet+Jackson+normal_rntb15_hq

Janet Jackson is getting ready to burst out onto the scene in a big way for 2010-she’s got a movie, a book and an album all scheduled for release this year!

However you can add one more project to her credit this year as she and longtime/on and off again boo Jermaine Durpi have joined forces once again to make the theme song for her film Why Did I Get Married Too?. Dupri confirms the track with being co-produced by Brian Michael Cox and that it’s entitled Nothing.

We’re definitely excited for some new Janet material and hope she’s got something huge in the works with her next music project.

The pop icon also sent her condolences after hearing about the death of Alexander McQueen:

“Today We lost a True Genius, Alexander McQueen. He possessed a unique creativity that will never b recaptured. Alexander invited me to my very 1st fashion show (his in London.) There will NEVER b another!”

She’s surprisingly one of the most level headed Divas we know!

The Los Angeles Coroner has listed Brittany Murphy’s cause of death as a result of pneumonia with prescription drug intoxication as a secondary factor. They’re saying that this accident could have been prevented if Brittany had sought medical attention sooner.

Assistant Chief Ed Winter told People, “This death could have been preventable. Murphy was planning on seeing  a doctor, but she unfortunately passed away before she did. This was a case of a person with pneumonia who was anemic who was taking medication when she  should’ve been getting medical treatment.

Chief Investigator Craig Harvey revealed that the actress was 5′3 and weighed 115 pounds at her time of death and though her death could have been prevented Harvey believes “she wasn’t the healthiest of persons in the world.”

And there you have it, just tragic!!!

In all honesty we didn’t think this would be the concluding remark, but it seems as if Casey Johnson’s experienced a natural cause of death. The Los Angeles County Coroner says the death was from diabetic ketoacidosis, a condition caused by low levels of insulin in the body.

A second autopsy report will be released in two weeks.
